Service-learning through collaborative innovation in Rural China

About Us

Peer Experience Exchange Rostrum, Inc. (PEER) is a US based not-for-profit organization dedicated to bring educational equality to rural Chinese students.  With a diverse group of passionate Chinese volunteers dedicated to rural education selected from leading universities around the world—including Harvard, Princeton, Cambridge, Peking University and Fudan University—PEER organizes innovative summer programs to qualified rural high school students that supplement their education with values in independence, creativity, teamwork and citizenship. Since our inaugural summer program in 2007, we have served more than 400 different students from four different schools in national level low-income counties and minority autonomous regions in Hunan and Shanxi.

Initiated by three Chinese college students starting in the United States, PEER has always been keen in recruiting a diverse group of talents as volunteers in its programs. Through the works in past three years, PEER has recruited over eighty volunteers to build a supportive community of dedicated contributors to collaborative learning and service in rural China.   With active participation of community members, PEER develops its PEER Methodservice-learning through collaborative innovation. Drawing heavily on volunteer input, The PEER Method has evolved over the course of years to offer a robust summer program curriculum with

  • thought-provoking seminars

  • collaborative group activities

  • student-centered mentorship

  • independent projects.

This year, new emphasis is placed on volunteer knowledge building and training, service-trip during summer program, and the social entrepreneurial Project PEER.
