1) Binxian High School


  • Binxian, Shanxi is a national-level poverty-stricken county 170km to the north of Xi’an.

  • It has a population of 324,000 and holds the second largest coal mine in the province.

  • Binxian High School (http://www.snbz.ccoo.cn/), the best high school in the county, was established in 1939. A municipal level key high school, Binxian High School has over 2600 students and 167 faculty members.

  • PEER has conducted Summer Programs twice in Binxian High School in 2008 and 2009.

  • Judged by past statistics, the students that participated PEER have reasonable chances of being admitted to key universities in China.

2) Chengbu No. 1Minority High School


  • Chengbu Miao Minority Autonomous County is a national-level poverty-stricken county in the southwest border of Hunan, 440km from Changsha.

  • Twelve minority groups make up 57.5% of the county’s population of 256,000.

  • Chengbu No. 1 Minority High School (http://www.cbyz-t.com/) , established in1942, is the only minority province level key high school in its region. Chengbu No. 1 High School has over 2800 students and 192 faculty members.

  • PEER has conducted Summer Programs twice in 2008 and 2009.

  • Judged by past statistics, the students that participated PEER have some chance of being admitted to colleges or universities in China.

3) Sangzhi No.1 High School


  • Sangzhi County is a national-level poverty-stricken county in the northwest part of Hunan, 60km from Zhangjiajie.

  • Minority groups, mostly Tujia, Bai, and Miao, make up 88% of Sangzhi’s population of 431,000.

  • Sanzhi No. 1High School, established in1942, is a municipal level key high school renowned for its students’ performance on college entrance examination.

  • Sangzhi No. 1 High School, including its subordinate middle school branch, has over 4500 students and 310 faculty members.

  • PEER has conducted Summer Programs since 2009.

  • Judged by past statistics, the students that participated PEER has a good chance of being admitted to key universities in China.

4)Jingyang Middle School (New in 2010, in partnership with Yiheng China Sun)


  • Majiang County is an impoverished county in Guizhou, a southwestern province known for economic stagnation.

  • The town of 9000 residents consists of 7 villages and lies in one of the poorer but less remote parts of the county.

  • Jingyang Middle School s the only middle school (grade 7-9) in town and is founded in 2001. Despite the poverty of the town, the school maintains a 70% high school entrance rate, ranking second in the county and far above average.
