Service-Learning Community
What is service-learning?
Service-Learning (S-L) combines the theoretical and practical learning experiences together. Through performing various voluntary community services, students’ academic study can be reinforced through the process of critical thinking and self-reflection.
The service ranges from knowledge delivery, community development, social and environmental issues tackling, to activities contributing to the well-being of individuals and communities.
PEER’s Service-Learning Community
All volunteers, regardless of their site of service during the summer, belong to PEER’s Service-Learning community. Other than service in the summer program, each volunteer is expected to develop sufficient knowledge about rural Chinese education, the state of Chinese nonprofit sector, and volunteering in China through online discussion, participation in a comprehensive orientation, and self-conscious reflection after service. During the Summer Program, the one-week long service trip is the service-learning end for both students and volunteers: they will together explore the local need to generate awareness of service through action.
Portal (coming soon)
The PEER Service-Learning portal is a platform for volunteers, experts, resource providers, and students to exchange ideas; it is also a platform for collaborative curriculum design. Please check back for details.
